It affects the parts on the outside of the building more than the appliance itself. Salt and wind shorten the life of flue terminals and external pipework, and an exposed elevation freezes sooner. The practical responses are routing condensate internally where possible, insulating what has to stay outside, and looking at terminals and external fixings at the annual service rather than only when something fails.

Usually, and on an exposed seafront elevation it is worth doing rather than lagging it for another year. The best fix is taking the condensate to an internal termination so it never sees the weather. Where that is not possible, the run can be increased in size, insulated properly and given a better fall so it does not sit and freeze.
