Our extension is always colder than the rest of the house — why?

Almost always because the radiator in it was teed off the nearest pipe rather than added to a system that was then rebalanced. The extension sits at the end of the run, gets what is left, and the rooms nearest the boiler get more than they need. Rebalancing, correctly sizing the emitter and checking the pipework can carry the extra load usually sorts it.

Is a bungalow with a loft tank worth converting to a combi?

It depends on the bathrooms and the mains. A single-bathroom bungalow with a good mains supply is a strong candidate, and it frees up the airing cupboard and clears the loft. Where there are two bathrooms in regular use, or the mains flow is poor, keeping stored hot water and modernising it is often the better result even though it sounds like the older option.
